How Spark Detection & Extinguishing Principle can reduce your risk of fires and dust explosions.

Primarily installed on pneumatic conveying systems, spark detection systems can reduce the risk of fires and dust explosions. Spark detection sensors and extinguishing devices are mounted on the side of conveying ducts. The distance between the sensors and extinguishment is determined by pneumatic conveying system velocity. A cut-away view of the pipe allows us to show the process of detecting and extinguishing sparks.

As the material flows through the duct the sensors will detect the spark’s or ember’s infrared radiation and signals the control console.

As a spark is moving though the duct the video pauses the action to show the process. The sensors detect the sparks and signals the control console which signals an alarm and triggers the high speed valves of the extinguishing devices. This process is accomplished within milliseconds.

When the extinguishing devices are triggered, they produce an atomizing mist of water that cools and extinguishes the spark stream. The water mist is spayed for a defaulted, but adjustable, time frame of five seconds and is a very small amount that it will not affect the filter media.
